5 reasons why I love starting a digital business

It’s been nearly two years since I moved from my physical office to a digital workspace.

Now, I work from home with 3 core team members who also work remotely.

As a team, we meet in person only once a month for refreshments, but all our work happens online.

I always dreamed of building a digital business where I could work from anywhere in the world, and now it’s becoming a reality.

Not only that, but my revenue has also increased by 60% since I switched to a digital office.

Our Digital Marketing Masterclass Program (DMMP) students are also enjoying the freedom of working from anywhere, thanks to their digital skills.

Many things have changed since transitioning to a digital office, and I’d like to share them with you.

1. Flexibility

I have the flexibility to work at any time and from anywhere.

Typically, I wake up at 5 or 6 am and head straight to my digital office—a room in my house dedicated solely to work.

Sometimes, I spend nearly 10 to 12 hours in this room working. On other days, I take straight 2 to 3 days off because I’m not in the mood to work.

Similarly, sometimes I work from home, in cafes, places outside the valley, and sometimes even outside the country.

No matter where I am, my work doesn’t suffer at all.

 

2. Independence

I’m both my own boss and my own employee.

There’s no one I need to report to. I can choose how many clients I want to work with and which ones.

The opportunity to increase my income is in my hands. The more clients I work with, the more income I can generate in my business.

For example, if I want to earn Rs 5 lakh this month, I can acquire 4 clients each with a service charge of Rs 1.5 lakh.

If I want to earn 10 lakh, then I increase my clients from 4 to 7. Of course, other factors come into play, such as building a core team to manage those clients but it is possible.

And the amount of income I want to generate is within my control.

 

3. Reduced commuting

When I had a physical office in Jhamsikhel, I had to spend 1 hour commuting to reach my office and another hour to get back home.

Getting ready for the office would also take an additional hour.

I felt like I was wasting 3 hours every day just commuting to and from the office.

3 hours * 26 days = 78 hours

I could have used those 78 hours every month to grow my business, but instead, I was wasting them on commuting.

Daily commuting to the office also increased my stress significantly, affecting my business.

 

4. Lower Overheads

This is one of my favorite reasons for starting a digital business.

Previously, I had many overhead expenses such as rent, lunch, team salaries, tools, daily commuting, and more.

But now, my overhead costs have been significantly reduced.

I no longer have to pay rent, and I’ve downsized my team to just 3 core members.

I operate my business with lower overhead costs compared to a traditional business.

 

5. Learn and Improve

In my business, I’ve automated many tasks such as video editing, lead nurturing, marketing, sales, and finance.

Some tasks have been automated using tools, while others have been managed with the help of human resources.

Because of this, I often have time to focus on learning new skills and improving my existing products or services.

I’m always looking for new ways to help my clients, which helps me keep a steady income flowing into my business.

 

Conclusion

It took me a lot of time to convince myself to switch to a digital office and to finally take action.

If I hadn’t made this decision, I would still be in my physical office, feeling stressed and questioning myself, “Did I make the right decision to start a business in Nepal?”
